Year 2

Welcome to our site!

Month: October 2016

Autumn 1 ‘Show and Tell’

We had a fabulous morning, sharing all the children’s precious objects and learning about their favourite things.  It was a lovely way to complete our first half term in Year 2.

Have a super holiday and we’ll see you again on Tuesday 8th November!

Hinduism

During our RE lessons, Mrs Norris has been teaching us about Hinduism.

We have been creating Rangoli patterns and learning about the festival of Diwali.

We Love Books!

This half term, our English work has been linked to these wonderful stories.  The children know them inside out!  Ask your child to tell you about ‘Mr Wolf and the Enormous Turnip’ by Jan Fearnley and ‘The Slightly Annoying Elephant’ by David Walliams.  They would make super Christmas presents!

Physical Education – Dance

On Thursday afternoons our PE session has a Dance focus.

We warm up with some fun dances and we’re getting much better at keeping to the beat and hearing phrases in music.

Year 2 can explain how they know when their bodies are ready for exercise.

We’ve choreographed a dance that’s all about the changing seasons.

Soon, we will be creating a dance about our morning routines at home and how we get ready for school!

We cool down with some collaborative team games,

Learning about Numbers!

We’ve been working really hard to embed our understanding of numbers and the number system.  We have been learning about:

  • partitioning
  • odd and even numbers
  • counting on and back
  • looking for patterns
  • continuing sequences
  • comparing numbers
  • ordering numbers

Roald Dahl Day

We celebrated what would have been Roald Dahl’s 100th Birthday with a whole school celebration.  In Year 2, we read one of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.  It was all about a little girl who accidentally sat on a porcupine!
